There are certain phrases I come across pretty much everywhere in tv, movies and especially advertising, these stock buzzwords that are about twenty years beyond overused. I'll start by posting the most recent one I came across.
- "a deadly game of cat and mouse" - as if there was any other kind. I just typed that into google as a phrase, and got nearly three million matches, presumably all word for word (well the first 800 were at least, couldn't be bothered looking any further).
- "Do you like it?" "Like it? I love it!" - yes, the "love" is always emphasised. This is no longer sweet or heartwarming; it is a dried up husk of a device that's visible from a mile off.
- "Did we kill it?" "No, we just made it mad." - Next time, pack bigger bullets. The concept for this is fine, but nobody ever bothers to rephrase it. Just changing it to "I don't think he liked that" would be enough.
